Limelight moment

Welcome to their moment. This week we present to you two friends, roommates and talented artists. April Amiry and Tristan Wadsworth.

April is a geology student, passionate in her study but also primarily in arts she gets inspired by her every day works, sketching the different stones, seashells and artifacts into meticulous detail. As if one was to imprint those into the paper itself. April also finds a lot of her inspiration inside Tattoo culture following in a darker style of raw emotion in her sketches.

Tristan is a photography student completing his bachelor’s degree at ECAL. His main inspiration forms in the nature of our species. The veil between the harsh truth and the reality we accept. What hides behind it is what Wadsworth revels on. The essence of life when nothing is the way it should but somehow everything feels better.

As always the words of the artist echo are than that of the reporter and so I leave you with their words.

Tristan Wadsworth

“Everything is a bit of a joke, isn’t it? Humans are the most loving, evil, frail, and ludicrous things on this planet, and I helplessly can’t look away. My entire path toward photography grew out of this realization. It’s why the more absurd or surreal an interaction is, the happier I am to be there. My pictures are what anchor me to the world, glimpses of a reality that we don’t take the time to reflect on. Photography isn’t a way for me to take a good picture, it’s a way to catch that one moment where the world feels unpredictable and alive again. There is so much out there to actually discover if we just stop looking for what’s 'aesthetic' and start looking for what’s human. These photographs are a selection from my series “Wasted World”, spanning from 2023 to present day. True to the title, I want to shine a light on the absurdity of it all. It’s an invitation to look at everyone and everything around us with a new eye, to see the world as it actually is, not how we've been trained to view it.”

April Amiry

“I am a student in geology and I love to draw in my free time. I get inspiration from tattoo like designs, alternative sigilism and lots of detail. I love challenging myself to see the extent of what I can do. I also love to draw inspiration from some of my favourite metal album artworks.”
